Grandma's Girl, by Susanna Leonard Hill, is an adorable picture book about the special love between a grandmother and her granddaughter.
While I was reading this book, I didn't get through more than three pages before I was texting my mom about this book that she had to have! She responded instantly asking how she can get a copy for each of her granddaughters.
Grandma's Girl is one of those picture books that every grandmother that has a granddaughter will want her collection. It makes the perfect gift, and I cannot wait to watch my mom curl up with her three granddaughters to read this sweet picture book. It is one of those books that are meant to make memories.
Throughout the story, you will see lots of grandmas and granddaughters sharing their love and exploring all kinds of activities and adventures. The illustrations are beautiful, and the words on the pages will touch your heart.
What I love the most about this book was the conscious decision to include all types of grandmas and their granddaughters. The illustrations include grandmas and granddaughters representing all ages, cultures, and ethnicities.
I especially thought of my mom when I noticed how encompassing all the illustrations are throughout this book. She says all the time that she is a hip, young grandma. She doesn't want to read books with her grandkids that have grandmas represented as little old ladies with grey hair all the time. She wants to see grandmas that look like her in the story, and Grandma's Girl will absolutely make my mom proud.
This deliberate choice is brilliant, and it makes this book universal for all grandmas and granddaughters.
