Hamsters are boring pets. All they do is sit in the cages and make their shavings wet. No matter what, there is never going to be a way that a hamster could possibly be the best pet for a fun and adventurous child.
But a hamster is what the child in the story, If I Had a Gryphon, has for a pet. In order to fulfill her wish of having the coolest pet in town, the little girl in the story starts to imagine what it would be like to have a mythological creature as a pet.
Enter in a unicorn, a mermaid, a sasquatch, a phoenix, a hippogriff, a Kraken, a gryphon and so many more mysterious and magical creatures.
One-by-one the little girl tries to imagine what it would be like to have one of these unique creatures as her pet, and each time she comes to a conclusion as to why each of these animals may not be the right choice for her.
In the end, the little girl comes to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe, a hamster as her pet may not be a bad fit after all.
