Juno Valentine and the Magical Shoes by Evan Chen

Juno Valentine is a little girl that loves her shoes! They are her favorite pair and she always, always wears them.

Naturally, one day, Juno loses her favorite pair of shoes and she cannot seem to find them anywhere. In an effort to locate her beloved shoes, Juno starts to dig through her closet. There she comes across a strange pair of shoes with magical powers.

As Juno tries on and explores the magic shoes that she has found, she is transported into the shoes of many famous women.

With a leap and a twirl, Juno is in the shoes of famous prima ballerina, Misty Copeland.

A swish of her paintbrush and the shoes puts Juno in the place of Frida Kahlo, the famous artist.

Step-after-step, Juno’s magical shoes put her in the place of so many wonderful women that have stood before her.

Juno Valentine is a cute story, but I felt it was a little disconnected at times. I love when stories introduce children to famous women who have impacted the world, but I thought the idea of the magical shoes jumped very quickly.

It took me a while to understand why we were now in the shoes of other people. I though the transitions between reality, fantasy, and back to reality were all pretty abrupt and need just a little bit more clarity in the story for me to absolutely love this story.
