Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating

May 18, 2018

I love nonfiction picture books! I think they are an amazing way to hook young readers on the nonfiction genre. Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the  Ocean's Most Fearless Scientist focuses on the life of the scientist, Eugenie Clark. The story starts off with Eugenie’s life as a child and how her love for marine life began. It especially highlights Eugenie’s love and passion for all things sharks!

As you read the story, Shark Lady, you will be amazed at everything Eugenie had to overcome in order to follow her dreams of becoming a scientist. Through each stage of Eugenie’s life, she is faced with extreme adversity, but every time a challenge faces Eugenie, she dives into it head on.

First, she dives into the deep waters of Atlantic City Beach, then deep in books and the depths of her educational career, and finally into the open waters to discover the truths behind the world’s most fearsome sharks. In the end, Eugenie is able to break open the realities of shark-mania and present her new found evidence of the actual realities of her beloved sharks.
