A sign of a great series is that it can be read and loved by all ages, from young children all the way to grown adults. Aaron Blabey’s Pig the Pug books are just this type of beloved series, and I have no doubt that it will someday join some of the greatest childhood classics, such as the Clifford and Curious George Series.
I have put this book to the test. In my adventure to truly test the vivaciousness of Pig, the greedy Pug, and all the messes he causes from his endless selfish choices, I have brought this book to lots of read-aloud opportunities. Naturally, I started my test of this book with my own daughter. Through her tears of laughter, she made me read this book over and over in our first sitting. Now, every new Pig book I bring home is met with a 4-year-old girl squeal and instant begging to sit down and read it.
I had the same reaction when I read the book to both 1st and 4th-grade classes. New rounds of laughter were met with all of Pig’s ridiculous stunts on each new page of Blabey’s books. Finally, the tried and true test. I recommend the book to my elementary staff co-workers. Instantly, the popularity of this series grew, and now it is a must read in almost every classroom of our school. If you haven’t read the Pig the Pug series, then you are missing out!
